Meet Our Tea Producer - Wah Tea Estate
26th March 2026Share
We believe that every exceptional tea begins with the people behind it…the growers, makers, and custodians of tradition who shape each cup with care and intention. As part of our commitment to transparency and quality, we are proud to spotlight the producers we partner with, sharing their stories, their expertise, and the origins of the teas we source.
Today, we introduce Surya, Director of Wah Tea Estate, and a fourth-generation tea producer dedicated to preserving the legacy of Kangra tea in the Himalayan foothills.
A Life Rooted in Tea

“I come from a long lineage of tea planters, and for as far back as I can remember, my childhood was filled with endless acres of green bushes, visits to tea factories, and lively discussions about — and with — tea.”
Surya’s journey into tea was shaped from an early age. Raised among tea gardens across Darjeeling, Assam, Dooars, and Himachal Pradesh, he grew up immersed in the culture, craft, and complexity of Indian tea production.
“I grew up accustomed to the taste of chai, often drinking more cups of orthodox tea than water.”
This deep-rooted connection to tea continues to influence his approach today - blending tradition with precision and care.
The Heart of Kangra – Wah Tea Estate

Nestled in the lush valley of Palampur, Wah Tea Estate is one of the most distinctive Himalayan tea gardens in India. Located at the foothills of the Dhauladhar mountains, the estate benefits from high altitudes, cool climates, and glacier-fed waters, creating ideal conditions for cultivating exceptional single-estate Kangra tea.
Kangra teas are known for their delicate, floral character, with soft notes of plum, honey, and a gentle warmth. Unlike the bold, malty teas of Assam or the muscatel richness of Darjeeling, Kangra offers a more refined and nuanced cup - one that reflects the calm rhythm of mountain life.
A Fourth-Generation Tea Producer
As a fourth-generation planter, Surya takes a deeply hands-on approach to tea making. Living in Palampur allows him to oversee every stage of production from cultivation and plucking to processing and tasting. This close connection ensures that every batch of tea meets the highest standards, preserving both the quality and authenticity of Wah Tea Estate’s single-origin teas. Rather than managing from afar, Surya remains at the source…guiding each step with expertise and intention.
Sustainable Tea Farming & Craftsmanship
At Wah Tea Estate, sustainability is at the heart of every decision. The teas are grown without pesticides, using environmentally conscious practices that protect both the soil and surrounding ecosystem.
Each leaf is hand-plucked and carefully processed within the estate, ensuring purity, freshness, and full traceability. This garden-to-cup philosophy reflects a commitment to both quality and responsibility - key values we prioritise at Camellia’s Tea House.
A Single-Estate Tea with a Story
Kangra tea remains one of India’s best-kept secrets - produced in small quantities, yet rich in heritage and character. As a true single-estate tea, every batch tells a story of its origin — shaped by the land, the season, and the people behind it.
Through partners like Surya and Wah Tea Estate, we are honoured to bring these rare teas to a wider audience, sharing not just a product, but a deeper connection to the world of tea.
